Taking Ayurveda to the World


Punarnava Ayurveda Hospital, Kochi takes the initiative to spread awareness about genuine and traditional treatments and methods in Ayurveda through its Continuing Ayurveda Awareness Program (CAAP). Twenty students from the USA visited Punarnava recently as a part of CAAP and learned and experienced the benefits of monsoon Ayurvedic treatment. They witnessed a live demonstration of Karkidaka Kanji preparation. Dr. A.M. Anwar, Chairman and Managing Director, Punarnava Ayurvedic Hospital made a presentation on the subject “Ayurvedic Approach to Life Style Disorders”. Dr. Jaseela Anwar, Medical Director, Dr. B. Rajeeve, Mr. Bukhari, Director and Mr. Mathew Joseph, Director, Marketing, Mountdale Holidays and Mr. Ravi Varma, General Manager, Punarnava also spoke on the occasion.

Punarnava Ayurvedic Hospital has announced its Monsoon Ayurveda Treatments for the year 2008. The Karkitaka Chikistsa or monsoon treatment is conducted with all traditionalism at Punarnava. The treatments are for seven or fourteen days. It can be taken for up to 40 days. According to Ayurveda, monsoon is the ideal time to flush out all impurities and to restore the tridoshas (Vatha, Pitha and Kapha) to balanced state. Karkidaka Kanji a concoction of 40 herbs is a specially medicated diet recommended for enhancing the metabolism. The herbs are boiled in coconut milk or in cow milk with little salt or coconut jaggery. Karkidaka Kanji is taken early morning or mid-evening.
