Dress

The Keralite's preference for simple living is reflected in the attire of the region. The Keralite has a liking for purity: white dresses marked by their elegance are a favourite with males as well as females. The popular male dress among most communities is a white fabric (mundu) worn around the waist and allowed to touch the feet. Neriyathu is the traditional costume of Hindu women.
Dresses are more or less uniform for all castes and communities when they appear in public. While men today prefer long trousers or mundu and shirts, women go in for the sari or churidar.

The traditional dress of Christian women is a white garment folded into a number of fan-like fringes. Muslim women wear a dark blue cloth from waist to ankles, and a white jacket with long sleeves.
